Vehicle Eligibility
A vehicle is eligible for registration under IRP if the vehicle:
- is intended for operation in two or more jurisdictions, AND
- has a registered weight of 11,794 kg or more; or
- has three or more axles, regardless of weight; or
- in combination with a trailer or semi-trailer has a combined weight of 11,794 kg or more; or
- has a regular route bus; or
- will be operating in a jurisdiction that requires IRP registration for a particular class or weight of vehicle - Vehicles with a registered weight of 11,794 or less are eligible for registration under IRP if they are intended for operation into or through jurisdictions where IRP registration is required at lower weight thresholds.
Manitoba's "Apportioned Vehicle Manual" contains information for registering commercial vehicles under the International Registration Plan. The manual describes how IRP works, the types of vehicles that are in the program as well as those that are exempt from IRP. It discusses IRP prerequisites such as fuel tax registration, operating authorities and insurance. The manual also contains information on Manitoba's prorate vehicle tax, record keeping requirements by carriers and associated audits.
