MPI expands hail estimating services in Winnipeg

Following an extraordinary response to the severe weather events that impacted customers across Manitoba this summer, Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) is expanding hail estimating services to all Winnipeg Service Centres to provide customers with more options for appointments and greater flexibility to have their vehicles assessed closer to where they live or work.
As of September 14, over 40,000 storm-related claims have been opened with the Crown corporation since June 9. The storm in Winnipeg on June 9 alone drove a record-setting volume of these claims, making it the largest single claim event in MPI’s history.

Since early June, MPI has responded by implementing special response measures designed to serve customers quickly and where they needed support most. This included MPI opening dedicated Hail Response Centres in Winnipeg, introducing alternative claims processes, with the support of its repair industry partners, to help customers begin moving forward with repairs as soon as possible as well as deploying mobile estimating services to communities in southwestern Manitoba.

As a result of these efforts, nearly 80 per cent of customers have scheduled an appointment with MPI or a repair shop to have the damage to their vehicle assessed, and estimates have been completed for 65 per cent of all storm-related claims opened this summer.

With this significant progress, MPI can now offer hail estimating appointments at all Winnipeg Service Centres, giving customers more convenient and accessible options to have their vehicles assessed.

Updates to Winnipeg and area claims response

Beginning on Oct. 1, MPI will reintroduce hail estimating appointments at all of its Winnipeg Service Centres. These appointments are available for booking, starting today.
Customers who have already opened a claim but have not yet booked an estimate at an
MPI location are encouraged to contact MPI’s Contact Centre at 204-985-7000 or toll
free at 1-800-665-2410 to schedule an appointment at a Service Centre near them.

The Hail Response Centre at MPI’s Gateway Service Centre will continue operating until
Oct. 30, and following this date, estimating appointments from this location will be
distributed to all Winnipeg Service Centres.

Continued support in southwestern Manitoba
Estimating appointments are continuing in Boissevain and Killarney to assist in processing
claims related to the July 5 storm in the area. MPI expects to remain in the region
throughout the fall to ensure customers can continue accessing the support they need
close to home.

Customers in the area who have opened claims with MPI will be contacted directly to
schedule an appointment, as they are available.

Any customers who have not yet reported damage related to any severe weather event
this summer are encouraged to open a claim online or by contacting MPI’s Contact
Centre.

MPI understands the impact severe weather has had on customers across the province
and appreciates the patience shown throughout the summer. The Corporation remains
focused on helping customers complete the claims process and return their vehicles to
pre-damage conditions as quickly as possible.
