Indigenous Engagement

Truth and Reconciliation is an ongoing journey across Canada that seeks to address the lasting impacts of the Indian Residential School system. This restores respectful, meaningful relationships between Indigenous and non‑Indigenous peoples.

Honouring our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation is one of the key pillars of MPI’s Multi-year Corporate Strategic Plan, which means it is both a motivator and driver of everything we do.

To continue driving focus on this important work, we’ve developed the following Statement of Commitment.

Statement of Commitment

Manitoba Public Insurance commits to continue building and strengthening partnerships with Indigenous Peoples in Manitoba, fostering an inclusive organization that promotes economic reconciliation, raising awareness, and increasing representation among employees, while ensuring culturally safer spaces and barrier free access to the products and services offered.

This statement is critical because it defines the organization’s values and responsibilities to the public, and creates public accountability. It is anchored in long‑term commitment, helping to build trust and guide decision‑making.

Indigenous Action Plan

We have also developed MPI’s very first Indigenous Action Plan to bring our Statement of Commitment to life.

This plan will allow us to focus on how we operate and the communities we serve. It is structured in three pillars: internal structure, community impact, and cultural empowerment.

MPI began this work by listening and engaging with Indigenous communities, and this commitment to meaningful engagement continues to guide our path forward. The Action Plan is grounded in community voices and reflects their collective priorities for MPI.

Through open dialogue, relationship‑building, and respect for lived experience, Indigenous voices have helped shape our understanding of what reconciliation looks like in practice.

This Action Plan translates our commitments into clear, accountable actions that strengthen relationships, remove systemic barriers, and support meaningful, lasting progress toward reconciliation across our operations.

The Seven Sacred Teachings are shared across many Indigenous cultures. Rooted in the wisdom of Elders and Knowledge Keepers, they guide how we live in a good way and stay true to our path. These teachings remind us to be brave and courageous, to live with honesty, and to show love for one another and for ourselves. They call on us to carry truth in our everyday lives, to walk with humility, and to show respect for each other and for the earth. They also encourage us to live with wisdom as we move through each day.
