Construction workers put their lives at risk when working on the road. As drivers, we can help them stay safe on the job.
Follow these tips to drive safely through a construction zone.
- Speed limits may be lower in construction zones. Slow down when you see the warning signs- it’s the law. In designated construction zones, the set fine for speeding will be doubled, even if there are no workers present.
- Watch for construction workers on or near the roadway, especially the flag person at the beginning of a construction zone. The flag person helps control the flow of traffic through the area and you must follow their directions, including slowing down or stopping.
- Keep plenty of space between you and the vehicle ahead so you can stop suddenly if necessary.
- Slow down and be careful so workers can get the job done safely and you can get to your destination.
