Road Safety

Construction Zones

Construction workers put their lives at risk when working on the road. As drivers, we can help them stay safe on the job.

Speed limits are lower in designated construction zones, whether or not workers are present, and the fine for speeding is double the cost of a regular ticket.

Passing vehicles can pose a serious threat to workers who are focused on the job they’re doing.

Watch for workers on or near the roadway. Especially the flag person at the beginning of a construction zone. The flag person helps control the flow of traffic through the area and you must follow their directions, including slowing down or stopping.

Keep plenty of space between you and the vehicle ahead so you can stop suddenly if necessary.

Slow down and be careful, so workers can get the job done safely and you can get to your destination.
