Medical Compliance and Assessments Program

The Medical Compliance and Assessments Program’s goal is to identify and assess drivers with medical conditions who may pose a risk to road safety and intervene when necessary. Medical Compliance and Assessments applies the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators' Medical Standards for Drivers. These national standards provide driver licencing authorities with information and standards to support consistent medical fitness decisions within, and across, Canadian jurisdictions.

Medical Compliance and Assessments’ staff include registered nurses with extensive nursing experience in a variety of settings.

Medical Compliance and Assessments receives approximately 50,000 medical reports annually from both commercial and private drivers. Some of these drivers must demonstrate their ability to drive safely by completing various types of driver assessments, such as the Driver Assessment and Management Program, DriveABLE, or other driver evaluations.
