Other Helpful Tips

• Is the seat the right size for your child’s height and weight? Check the limits on the child car seat before purchasing.
• Can the child car seat be installed correctly in your vehicle? Not all seats fit all vehicles.
• Does the car seat meet Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards? Car seats purchased in any country other than Canada - including the United States - are illegal for use in Canada. Check for the National Safety Mark to see if your car seat is legal. For more information, visit the Transport Canada website.
• Is the expiry date stamped in the plastic on the back of the seat? Most seats are stamped. However, if no expiry date is found, contact the car seat manufacturer.
• Are the harness and tether straps easy to adjust? It’s important to use them correctly to keep your child safe.
• Has the seat been recalled? Check Transport Canada’s website at www.tc.gc.ca to find out.
• Don't rush to move to the next stage. Many car seats are designed with higher weight and height limits to secure your child in each stage longer.
