ATTEMPTED FRAUD ADVISORY
Manitoba Public Insurance is warning customers to not give out any personal information to anyone who is offering to renew Autopac policies or driver’s licences over the telephone. Some customers have also been contacted by an automated voice system.
Recently, several people in Manitoba have been contacted under this apparent scam. They are encouraged to renew either their Autopac policy or driver’s licence, and are then asked to give their credit card number.
Manitoba Public Insurance DOES NOT conduct business this way and brokers never call customers individually to renew coverage.
People contacted in this manner should immediately hang up the phone. If Manitobans suspect an attempt to con them has been made by telephone or e-mail, they are encouraged to immediately contact Phonebusters toll free at 1-888-495-8501, or via their website at www.phonebusters.com.--30—
