Snowmobile education a key to safe riding
MPI and Snoman hit the trails together

Thousands of youngsters throughout Manitoba continue to learn safe riding skills thanks to the Snowmobilers Association of Manitoba (Snoman) and Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI).

The highly successful MPI/Snoman Sled Smart Program, now in its second winter of operation, plans to deliver its safe-riding message to about 7,000 junior high students in schools throughout the province. Sled Smart instructors also provided four, safe-riding presentations to interested guests at Snoman's annual open house today.

"Snowmobiling should be a fun and enjoyable outing," said Snowman Executive Director, Bob Aiken. "Unfortunately, many people don't practice safe riding. The MPI Sled Smart program deals with safe riding, proper equipment and how to avoid a serious accident."

Sadly, there have already been four snowmobile-related deaths in the province since December 1. Aiken is hopeful the MPI/Snoman Sled Smart program will lay a strong foundation of safe riding to the youngsters who attend the session.

Safe Snowmobiling Tips:

  • Ride Safe, Stay on the Trail - Respect Private Property
  • Know Before You Go - Always Check Local Ice Conditions
  • When Night Riding, Slow Down - Expect the Unexpected
  • Cross With Care - Don't Become Road Kill

RIDE SAFE, RIDE SOBER.SLED SMART!!

Protecting both the rider and snowmobile are priorities of MPI, which recently introduced several enhanced insurance packages related to all off-road vehicles (ORV). The new ORV insurance packages, which are available at any Autopac outlet, provide enhanced third-party liability coverage for owners; coverage for theft or damage to the ORV; collision damage and accident benefits to injured people.
