www.mpi.mb.ca: Check out the changes!

Take a pinch of Flash animation, mix in some sage advice and interesting quizzes and voila, you have the recipe for Manitoba Public Insurance's new-look web site.

Recently celebrating its one-year anniversary, www.mpi.mb.ca has taken on a new look and feel to make it easier for visitors to locate information and browse.

"User friendly comes to mind when describing our web site," said MPI Vice-President Public Affairs, John Douglas. "Web sites need to undergo change and revitalization periodically. This is done to take advantage of changing technology, improve navigation and download times."

Visitors will find that links to frequently visited pages have been made more visible and easily accessed through the home page. ALT tags (little pop-up windows that summarize the content of each of the Web site's 24 sections) have also been added to simplify the navigation process.

While MPI's new-look web site offers loads of information about automobile insurance, injury coverage and premium rates, visitors can also have a bit of fun. Yes, fun.

For those visitors who fancy themselves driving experts, an on-line driving quiz provides the perfect opportunity to test their skill and knowledge. Last year 1,500 visitors per week took the test.

If it's expert driving tips you're after, www.mpi.mb.ca has them. The 60-Second Driver is a joint initiative of MPI and CKY5 television that features MPI driving experts providing information on a variety of driver safety issues. The video clips and written versions of the tips have both been included on the Web site.

Of course, popular features such as the insurance rate calculator and salvage vehicle listings remain integral features of the new site as well.

"Our regular visitors, as well as new visitors, will notice how vibrant and dynamic the changes are to our web site," said Douglas. "The redesigned look will help speed up download time and makes better use of screen space."
