MPI RoadWise Community Award winners honoured
Working together for a RoadWise Manitoba

Manitoba Public Insurance today honoured the efforts of the many groups and individuals working to keep Manitoba roads safer by awarding three RoadWise Community Awards.

MADD Winnipeg was honoured with the RoadWise Community Group Award for its commitment to stopping impaired driving and for the compassionate support it offers to victims of this crime.

An award for lifetime achievement was presented to Alan Clayton, whose 30-year academic and professional career has focussed on commercial truck safety and freight transportation.

Merv Anderson, a teacher and leader of the Teens Against Drinking and Driving (TADD) group at Fort Richmond Collegiate, was awarded the RoadWise Community Individual Award for his work in educating teenagers about drinking and driving.

This year's winners have demonstrated a strong dedication and commitment to road safety, said Dennis Bell, acting manager, Road Safety, Manitoba Public Insurance and co-chair of the Manitoba Road Safety Co-ordinating Committee, a group that includes members from a number of organizations committed to road safety.

"Promoting road safety is very important," said Jack Zacharias, President and Chief Executive Officer, Manitoba Public Insurance. "And we know that our message is stronger when we work with other groups and individuals in the community who share our commitment to making our streets and roads safer."

A highlight of the Community Awards was a review of MPI's Road Safety accomplishments over the past year.

"It is possible to make our roads among the safest in North America," said Becky Barrett, Minister Responsible for MPI. "And thanks to the dedicated efforts of the individuals and groups who we are honouring today with the RoadWise Community Awards we are that much closer to reaching that goal."
