The Manitoba Driver, from Manitoba Public Insurance About 250 words Imagine a giant 30-foot-long rotisserie spinning a full-size pickup truck at 30 revolutions per minute and ejecting the crash test dummies in a matter of seconds. You can see this happen with Manitoba Public Insurance’s Rollover Simulator as part of its Safety on Wheels road show travelling across Manitoba from May to August. “Our Safety on Wheels program is effective in shaping attitudes because the presentations are fun, interactive and they make people think,” says Clif Eden, Manager of Road Safety for Manitoba Public Insurance. “They really drive home the importance of making road safety a priority.” Three other presentations make up Safety on Wheels. Children aged four to seven can experience real driving with Mini Car Town and learn safe manners by driving electric cars through a town streetscape with traffic signs and pedestrian and railway crossings. Drinking, Driving and Fatal Vision simulates impaired vision from intoxication and tests hand-eye co-ordination with a series of fun tests. Participants are frustrated quickly in their attempts. Cycle Safely Bike Rodeo provides a fun, early riding lesson for young children. Youngsters are instructed on the rules of the road, traffic signs and bicycle helmets followed by riding skills exercises.
