The Manitoba Driver, from Manitoba Public Insurance About 250 words Budding filmmakers interested in winning prizes and seeing their work on the big screen should power up their cameras. The deadline to enter the Road Safety Video Challenge, sponsored by Manitoba Public Insurance, is Feb. 22. The video challenge is part of Freeze Frame’s International Film Festival for Kids of All Ages, to be held in Winnipeg March 14-22. This year the contest offers students across the province a chance to express themselves on four separate road safety issues. Students in Grades 8 and under are invited to create a 30-60-second spot on either bicycle safety or pedestrian safety. Students in Grades 9-12 can create a video or a documentary up to seven minutes long either on the consequences of impaired driving, or on their views on aggressive driving. “We want to encourage young people to think about safety on our streets and highways, and what better way to do that than with a fun and educational video competition,” says Shauna Neiser, Road Safety Senior Business Analyst at Manitoba Public Insurance. There are four prizes of $250 in the Road Safety Challenge. Winning entries will have their videos screened for the public during the Freeze Frame Festival Awards Gala and uploaded on the Freeze Frame website. Contest finalists could also have their videos screened during the festival at the Globe Theatre, Winnipeg. Entries will be judged by a jury of local film and video professionals.
