SIU stands for Special Investigation Unit. SIU works alongside local law enforcement agencies such as the RCMP and local police departments. Together they investigate such varied claims as bodily injury, theft, fire, and hit and run. In detecting and recovering costs from fraudulent claims, they save Manitobans millions of dollars.

For the fiscal year ending February 28, 2009, SIU investigated 2,900 claims. Some of these investigations resulted in criminal charges, others in suspicious claims being withdrawn, for a net result of over $9 million in claims cost savings.
