Saving fuel saves lives
With gasoline now above $1 per litre, it’s reassuring to know that the same driving philosophy that saves you money can also save your life.
Reduce your highway speed
Lowering your speed on the highway reduces your risk of being
involved in a serious collision. Reducing your speed by 20 kilometers
per hour at highway speed can save you almost 20 per cent in fuel.
Don’t use a heavy foot
Accelerating quickly from a stop and applying your brakes suddenly are more than just dangerous ways of driving. Such aggressive driving also uses up to 39 per cent more fuel than controlled driving.*
Regular servicing saves fuel
A well-maintained vehicle is a safe and efficient vehicle. Fouled plugs and dirty air and fuel filters make for an inefficient engine that wastes fuel.
Proper tire pressure helps
Low tire pressure increases tire wear and fuel consumption by up to four per cent. Always use the “maximum load” tire pressure indicated in your owner’s manual.
Save the atmosphere and your money
Idling your engine produces unnecessary engine exhaust. If you are waiting for passengers turn off your engine. If you’re going to be idling for more than 10 seconds, it’s more fuel efficient to shut off your engine and restart it when it’s time to go.
