Put your seatbelt on

Seatbelts are effective – but only if you wear them. You need to wear your seatbelt every time you get in the car, even if you're just going a short distance.

The consequences of not wearing your seatbelt can be fatal.

Seatbelts are easy to use. Just make sure the belt fits snug across your body, is not twisted and that the shoulder harness is over the shoulder and not under the arm.

As a parent, guardian or caregiver, you also need to make sure children are properly restrained in suitable child safety seats that are correctly installed. To ensure your children's car seats are properly installed have them checked by an expert. Visit mpi.mb.ca for a list of Winnipeg fire halls that conduct car seat inspections.

Buckle up and stay safe.
