Occupant Safety
Seatbelts and head restraints are
important safety devices that,
when used properly, can prevent
serious injury and even death.
Help reduce your risk of unnecessary injury by
ensuring your seatbelts and head restraints are
adjusted properly and in good working condition.
Head restraints
They aren’t just for comfort.
They prevent whiplash in
rear-impact accidents.
Make sure they’re at the appropriate height. Adjust your head restraint so the top is even with the top of your head. Check to make sure it’s close to the back of your head – about four centimeters.
Check the rear seats. If your vehicle has rear-seat head restraints, make sure they’re also correctly adjusted.
Seatbelts
Wear them properly. Make sure the belt is flat and snug against your body. Don’t disconnect the shoulder harness or put it under your arm – it needs to run across your chest to protect you.
Save a life. The fine for not wearing a seatbelt in Manitoba is $292.65 for drivers and passengers and the infraction will move you down two levels on the Driver Safety Rating Scale.
Seatbelts save lives and head restraints reduce the risk of serious injury. Follow these tips so we can all reduce risk on the road.
