Motorists and motorcyclists share responsibility for each others’ safety
Most accidents involving motorcycles
happen because the motorcyclist
wasn’t seen. Help make this a safe
and enjoyable riding season whether
you’re on a motorcycle or behind the wheel.
Motorists:
- look twice when changing lanes and at intersections because there might be a motorcycle hidden behind cars
- maintain at least four seconds’ distance – more at night or in rain – when following a motorcycle
Motorcyclists:
- ride in a position where you can be seen by other motorists and stay out of their blind spots
- keep a safe lane position so you can see traffic ahead and other vehicles won’t try to crowd into your space
- avoid riding between tire tracks, where leaked engine oil sometimes makes the road slippery
- don’t dart from lane to lane and never ride between driving lanes to pass vehicles
Safety first:

take a course in motorcycle safety.
