A driver’s grab bag of Halloween tips

On Halloween night, it’s up to drivers to keep wee ghosts and goblins safe as they cross the street. All it takes is a little more caution than usual.

Scare up a little extra care

Caught up in Halloween’s excitement, kids may enter the street where they shouldn’t. So, slow down through neighbourhoods and keep your eyes peeled for children darting out from between parked cars. And remember to stop before sidewalks and crosswalks when people are about to cross the street.

Light your lanterns earlier

Because some trick-or-treaters wear dark costumes, they may be especially hard to see. So, turn on your headlights at least 30 minutes before sunset and watch carefully. Have your own kids wear reflective tape and carry a flashlight or glowstick.

Park nearby and walk

Rather than driving your kids from block to block, park in a safe and legal spot nearby and walk with them. You’ll get more exercise to burn off those Halloween treats while helping keep streets clear.
