Drowsy driving can lead to a rude awakening

When sleepiness comes over you, it's hard to resist. On your couch, napping can be a pleasant and safe diversion.

But tiredness behind the wheel is anything but safe. It reduces your alertness and reaction time. In short, it increases your risk of crashing.

Drowsy DrivingWatch for these danger signs

Pull over and rest

If you have any of these symptoms while you're driving, drinking coffee, opening your window or turning up the radio isn’t enough. You need to pull off the road, stop and rest.

Preventing fatigue behind the wheel

Be well-rested before you drive and avoid big meals.

Don’t drive after drinking alcohol or taking medications that might make you sleepy.

On longer trips, take a break at least every two hours and share the driving if possible.
