Driving like it's July? You're just spinning your wheels.
The odds are, if a wintery blast hasn't yet arrived, it's coming soon.
You know the drill: swirling snow, plunging temperatures, with some melting and freezing thrown in. In all, it can put your driving on thin ice.
But some simple adjustments will help you keep control – even in the worst winter weather.
Easy does it
Drive to conditions by taking it slow. Remember, the speed limit may be too fast.
Avoid sudden starts and stops.
Ease into turns. Turning too quickly may cause you to skid.
More room, less zoom
Keep more space between you and traffic ahead. Remember, following too closely can lead to a rear end collision – especially when it's slippery.
Slow down gradually as you approach intersections – ice may be waiting for you!
When braking to a stop, shift into neutral. It cuts the power to your wheels, which helps distribute braking force evenly. That means shorter and straighter stops.
