Driving distractions: stay in control
Distractions are the cause of
almost one in five fatal collisions.
You can help keep the roads safe by avoiding these common driver distractions:
Talking on a hand-held cell phone: drivers are four times more likely to be in an accident when talking on a hand-held cell phone.
Texting: a recent study shows that drivers who are texting spend nearly five seconds looking at their cell phones – enough time at typical highway speeds to cover more than the length of a football field.
If you get caught talking on a hand-held or texting while driving, a fine of $199.80 will be issued.
Eating and grooming behind the wheel: allow for extra time before driving so you don't have to eat or groom on-the-go.
Roadside distractions: slow down but resist the urge to watch when passing any roadside distraction.
Stay in control and avoid dangerous distractions when driving. Together we can all reduce risk on Manitoba’s roads and highways.
