Safety Feature: Airbags
Airbags are designed to protect you
from serious injury but you must
take precautions for them to
be effective.
Here are a few tips to follow:
- Buckle up, even for short distances. Steering wheel and dashboard airbags provide extra protection in a front-impact collision but seatbelts are still required to reduce the impact.
- Don't sit too close to the wheel or dashboard. Sit approximately 25 centimetres back to avoid injury when an airbag deploys.
- Always place rear-facing car seats in the back seat.
- Children 12 years old and under should be seated in the back seat because they may be injured when an airbag deploys if they are sitting in the front seat.
Remember, airbags are meant to supplement seatbelts,
not replace them.
