Median Turns

Some traffic situations create confusion when turning left.

On a main thoroughfare where a median is present, drivers turning left often don't know where to position their vehicle in the intersection.

turning onto a medianThe law states whenever you're turning left, you must position your vehicle left of the centre of the intersection.

When approaching the intersection, put your vehicle in a position that makes it easy to stay to the left of centre in your turn.

In this diagram, the vehicle making the left turn stays to the left of centre. The driver on the side street waits for the intersection to clear before pulling away from the stop sign.

Following the proper procedure will help keep traffic from all directions moving smoothly and safely.

So remember, stay left when turning left.
