You've probably seen wildlife signs. Deer, moose and elk are abundant in Manitoba, even in urban areas. Autumn is the peak time for wildlife collisions and there are a few things we can do to lessen our chances of being involved in a collision with an animal: |
Peak danger times are from dusk to midnight and just after sunrise- Use your high beams so you can see further down the road and have more time to react
- When an animal does jump out, brake and use the horn
- Swerving could cause an even worse collision with another vehicle
- If you see one deer there's probably another around. They rarely travel singly.
If you encounter an injured animal, don't approach it--an injured animal could further harm itself or be a danger to you. Instead, call the police.
