Stay alert on Thanksgiving weekend
Thanksgiving usually includes turkey, stuffing and afternoon naps. It's also a time when people travel to visit with loved ones.
With an increased number of vehicles on the road on long weekends, speeding and impaired driving become even bigger problems.
According to Manitoba Public Insurance statistics, from 2005-2009,
543 people were injured in traffic accidents on Thanksgiving weekend.
When you are heading out, you can help reduce risk on the road:
- Do not drive while impaired.
- Buckle up.
- Plan an appropriate amount of time to get to your destination.
- Keep your speed suitable for travel conditions and do not exceed the posted speed limit.
To help keep you safe on the road, law enforcement agencies will be carrying out Operation Impact - checking for impaired driving and other dangerous driving behaviour.
Keep these tips in mind and have a great long weekend.
