Snowmobile Safety.
Snowmobiling can be a fun way
to enjoy the winter in Manitoba
as long as you take precautions
to avoid injury.
Here are some safety tips that you should follow
when operating a snowmobile:
- Be sure to let someone know what your plans are, check trail conditions at snoman.mb.ca and inspect your machine before you head out.
- If possible, take a cell phone with you and pack an emergency kit that includes spare belts and spark plugs, wrenches, nuts and bolts sized for your sled, a towrope, pry bar, wire and extra ignition keys.
- Wear an appropriate helmet, clothing and safety gear.
- Drive at the posted speed limit or a speed that is appropriate for the conditions.
- Stay on groomed trails to avoid hazards such as wire fences and rocks. If you drive in a ditch, travel in the same direction as traffic on the adjacent roadway and watch for trees, culverts or other hazards.
- Do not operate a snowmobile while impaired – your licence could be suspended and you will be unable to drive your snowmobile, ATV and motor vehicle.
Enjoy the drive and stay safe on the trails this winter.
