Screech. Crunch. What now?
Drive safely and you can minimize your chances of being in a crash. But in case it happens, here's what to do.
Make sure all are safe
If people are hurt, they're your
number one priority. Get them the
help they need.
One crash doesn't deserve another
When safe, pull over to the shoulder or curb lane. To help other drivers see you, open your hood and turn on your flashers.
Exchange information
First, move to a sidewalk, or a boulevard away from traffic.
Then, exchange names, addresses, phone numbers, driver's licence numbers, vehicle descriptions, plate numbers and insurance policy numbers.
While it's fresh, write it down
Dealing with the stress of a crash, it's easy to forget exactly what happened.
So, write down these details:
Drawing a picture of what happened can help too.
Talk to witnesses
If possible, get the names, addresses and telephone numbers of any witnesses.
