Are you prepared for
an emergency?
In winter, it's always best to be
prepared and take extra precautions
before heading out on the road,
especially when your plans include
travel in an isolated area. Here are
some tips to help you prepare in case
of an emergency:
- Before you head out on the road it's a good idea to let someone at your
destination know when you expect to arrive.
- Travel during the day and stay on major roadways if possible.
- Keep a winter survival kit in your vehicle that includes the following:

- ice scraper
- shovel
- booster cables
- flares
- flashlight and batteries
- first aid kit
- extra clothing and footwear
- blanket
- candles, candle holder and matches
Other items you should consider are:
- sand or traction aid
- towrope
- small tool kit
- fire extinguisher
- non-perishable food
- hand warmers
- If you are stranded on the side of the road, stay in your vehicle until
help arrives.
And remember, if the weather is very cold (-40 degrees Celsius) it's best
to stay off the roads.
