Sharing the road with farm equipment
Every year there are collisions involving farm equipment on Manitoba's roadways. Following these simple tips can keep the roads safer for everyone.
Passenger vehicles
Drivers travelling behind farm equipment should slow down early and stay well behind so they can get a good view of the road ahead before attempting to pass.
Drivers headed in the opposite direction should be aware that a lot of farm equipment is over-sized and may take up more than one lane.
Farm equipment
On highways, all farm equipment is required to display a slow-moving vehicle sign that's clearly visible to traffic behind them, and have red reflectors on the rear left and right sides.
When driving at night, farm equipment must have headlights, red tail lamps and flashing amber warning lamps.
Farm equipment operators can get more information from the Vehicle Standards and Inspections offices in Brandon, Dauphin and Winnipeg.
