Turning left on St. James Street
There's a turning lane on St. James Street near Polo Park with a history of sending drivers into dangerous head-on collision situations. So it's obviously important to know how to use this lane properly.
The centre lane on St. James Street is for left turns only. If you've entered this lane, you are required to turn left at the next intersecting private approach or public street.
This can be tricky at times. Sometimes, drivers will enter the lane too soon, putting themselves into a stand-off position with a left turning vehicle in the opposing direction.
Avoid this situation by scanning further down the road, watching for other drivers using the lane. p
You also want to enter the turning lane as near as possible to where you want to turn.
This lane is not for through traffic or for passing other cars. And, if used incorrectly, a ticket could be issued for a Highway Traffic Act violation.
