Passing an Accident Scene

As drivers, we can help emergency responders get to the scene of an accident quickly by pulling to the side of the road.  But what about after they arrive at the scene of an accident?

The number one "on-the-job killer" of emergency responders is traffic accidents.  And a lot of these deaths happen at the scene of another accident.

As we pass a crash scene, the first thing to do is to slow down and be prepared to stop. There are usually emergency workers moving around the scene and they may not see you coming.

Typically, you want to be in the farthest lane from the accident. Only stop if you need to, and watch where you are going at all times.

Keep the road conditions in mind as well. You may be driving on the same slick roads that were the cause of the accident you are passing.

By keeping emergency responders safe, we can help them help others.
