Farm Implements
During
spring seeding and harvest time,
it’s
common to encounter farm implements when
travelling on rural roads and highways. But surprisingly,
accidents between farm equipment and ordinary vehicles
still happen.
Farm implements are not only very large, but oddly shaped. They often take up more than half of the road’s width, and sometimes, it’s hard to tell just how wide they are--particularly at night.
Farm
tractors, combines and other equipment also move
very slowly, with a maximum speed of 40 km/h. At
regular highway speeds, you will approach a piece
of farm equipment faster than you think.
The important thing to remember is to slow down well ahead of time and to look closely at the machine when approaching or passing it, to see how wide and how long it is. Be extra cautious when it gets dark.
So
be extra careful when passing farm machinery--on
the prairies, a combine on the road is a fact of
life.
