Knowledge (Written) Tests
Knowledge tests for all classes of licence are:
- administered using a computer
- scheduled by appointment-only, not walk-in
- available at testing locations throughout Winnipeg
The test on the computer is available in English and French. All other foreign language tests are administered on paper. There is a time limit of one-half hour to complete the test.
The testing locations are:
- 15 Barnes Street at Bison Drive
- 40 Lexington Park at Gateway Road
- 1284 Main Street
- 125 King Edward Street
- 930 St. Mary's Road (French Language Services available)
- 420 Pembina Highway
- 1103 Pacific Avenue
Knowledge test hours are:
- From Labour Day until the first Monday in June
- Monday to Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.
- Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- From the first Monday in June until Labour Day
- Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
- Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. - (Main Street, Barnes at Bison, Lexington at Gateway Only)
To take a knowledge test you need to:
- Pay in advance at any Autopac agent, the Cityplace Service Centre, or any of the locations above and
- Book an appointment by calling (204) 985-7788 or toll-free 1-800-782-0777 up to eight weeks in advance, and providing the receipt number.
When making your appointment, please note the time, day and location of the test.
It’s a good idea to register as a customer before your knowledge test appointment.
- Doing this in advance will speed up the process because we can begin verifying your identification right away. That means your photo card can be processed without delay once you’ve passed the test.
- You’ll also avoid any surprises or delays that could result on the day of the test if you don’t bring the right identification.
- To register as a customer, just visit any Autopac broker. There are several in the area to choose from, and some may be open evenings and weekends.
- Bring the ID you will need to verify your identity. The ID requirements are outlined here.
Road tests for all classes of licence are scheduled BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Walk-in tests may be available depending on the number of scheduled daily appointments.
Tests can be booked up to eight weeks in advance.

Arrive at your testing location at least 15 minutes prior to the test, and
- Park in one of the designated “Road Test Applicants” parking stalls located closest to the doors. There are three of these parking spots at each location reserved specifically for customers who are taking a road test.
- Report to the front counter to inform them you have arrived for your appointment. The Driver Examiner will be informed that you have arrived so you can begin your test.
- Produce both copies of the road test receipt; a valid learner's licence; and a valid registration certificate for the vehicle you are using for the test.
