Knowledge (Written) Tests
To obtain a learner’s licence in any of the licence classes, a knowledge (written/oral) test must be taken.
Knowledge tests for all classes are administered using a computer.
The test on the computer is available in English and French. All other foreign language tests are administered on paper. There is a time limit of one-half hour to complete the test.
Knowledge tests may be taken WITHOUT an appointment at the following Customer Service Centres:
- Portage la Prairie: 25 Tupper Street
- Thompson: 53 Commercial Place
Knowledge test hours at the above locations:
- Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Knowledge tests are taken BY APPOINTMENT ONLY at the following Customer Service Centres:
- Arborg: 323 Sunset Boulevard
- Beausejour: 848 Park Avenue
- Brandon: 731 1st Street
- Dauphin: 217 Industrial Road
- Steinbach: Unit 2 - 165 Park Road West (Clearspring Mall 2) - (French Language Services available)
- Winkler: 355 Boundary Trail

Knowledge tests are provided in other communities BY APPOINTMENT ONLY using Mobile Testing Units. Find out what is available in your area.
To take a knowledge test for any of the licence classes, you need to:
- pay in advance at any Autopac agent or one of the following locations:
- Arborg: 323 Sunset Boulevard
- Beausejour: 848 Park Avenue
- Brandon: 731 1st Street
- Dauphin: 217 Industrial Road
- Portage la Prairie: 25 Tupper Street
- Steinbach: Unit 2 - 165 Park Road West (Clearspring Mall 2) (French Language Services available)
- Thompson: 53 Commercial Place
- Winkler: 355 Boundary Trail
- and book an appointment by calling toll-free 1-800-782-0777 and providing the receipt number.
- Arrive at your testing location at least 15 minutes prior to the test. You will need to produce both copies of the knowledge test receipt
To take a road test for any of the licence classes, you need to:
- pay in advance at any Autopac agent or one of the following locations:

- and book an appointment by calling toll-free 1-800-782-0777 and providing the receipt number.
- Arrive at your testing location at least 15 minutes prior to the test. You will need to produce:
- both copies of the road test receipt
- a valid learner's licence;
- a valid registration certificate for the vehicle you are using for the test
Road tests are provided BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.
