Treatment Expenses

Manitoba Health provides primary health care coverage when you're injured in a motor vehicle accident. If you need additional treatment to assist in your recovery, PIPP extends the health care safety net. PIPP will pay for treatments that are measurably effective in improving your condition, if the cost of the treatment is not covered by any government health care program.

PIPP coverage includes care by a dentist, optometrist, chiropractor, physiotherapist, physician, registered psychologist, or athletic therapist.

Some treatments are only covered when performed by certain health care professionals. For example, acupuncture is covered only when performed by a medical doctor, physiotherapist or chiropractor who holds current credentials recognized by their Association. Massage therapy is only covered when dispensed by a physician, chiropractor, physiotherapist, athletic therapist or nurse practitioner.

Athletic Therapy, Chiropractic and Physiotherapy:

The Manitoba Athletic Therapists Association, the Manitoba Chiropractors’ Association, the Manitoba Branch of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, and Manitoba Public Insurance share a goal of treating your injury as effectively as possible. To achieve this we’ve jointly developed guides to help you avoid dependency on treatment and get you better, faster. Your chiropractor or therapist can explain these guides to you in more detail.

Athletic therapists, physiotherapists and chiropractors bill us directly for accident-related treatments. This means there is no direct cost to you for these treatments. PIPP covers these treatments when they're medically necessary because of injuries you sustained from the accident.

We must authorize dental treatment before treatment begins, except for emergency dental work just after the accident.

Your case manager can confirm that a specific treatment is covered. When in doubt, please check with us before starting treatment.
