Underwriting
Associate
Underwriter
Work Location: Brandon
Responsible for quotation and overall underwriting of Basic Automobile Scheduled and fleet business that contain no Cargo, General Liability or out-of-Province Registered Automobiles. Responsible for administering coverage confirmation to the claims department.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- High school graduation
- Four (4) Insurance Institute courses
- C13 – Liability Insurance
- C14 – Automobile Insurance
- C17 - Claims
- Experience:
- Two (2) years as an Underwriting Clerk and/or Underwriting
Support Clerk
-or- - Sum of clerical experience and post secondary education totaling three (3) years including a minimum of one (1) year in the SRE Department
- Two (2) years as an Underwriting Clerk and/or Underwriting
Support Clerk
- Special skills and/or requirements
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Products
- Working knowledge of CARS, IWS, SIS
- Working knowledge of SRE underwriting Procedures and policy wordings
- Knowledge of HTA, MB Insurance Act, MPIC Act

Senior
Underwriter
Work Location: Brandon
Responsible for quotation and underwriting of the most complex transportation packages and fleet business. Provides mentoring and direction to those in subordinate positions. Represents Manitoba Public Insurance outside the office to our broker force, clients, and the public.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- High School Graduation
- MPI courses required
- Nine (9) Insurance Institute courses in total:
- C11, C13, C14, C17, C48, C38, C71, C47, C32 or C72
- Experience:
- Three (3) years as an Underwriter II
-or- - Five (5) years experience in the Insurance Industry either working for a Commercial Broker or Commercial Insurer with a minimum of three (3) years as a Commercial Underwriter with knowledge and practical experience of Cargo, General Liability and Automobile Insurance.
- Three (3) years as an Underwriter II
- Special skills and/or requirements.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Products
- Working knowledge of CARS, IWS, SIS
- In-depth knowledge of SRE underwriting Procedures and policy wordings
- In-depth knowledge of HTA, MB Insurance Act, MPIC Act
- Thorough knowledge of Regulatory Requirements, Commercial Registration
- Thorough knowledge of Basic Autopac and Extension Products
- Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure in an articulate manner to communicate decisions and influence others.

Underwriter I
Work Location: Brandon
Responsible for quotation and overall underwriting of complex transportation package and fleet business as well administering coverage confirmation to the claims department.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- High School Graduation
- Six (6) Insurance Institute courses in total:
- C48 – Automobile Insurance (Part II)
- C38 – Casualty Loss Prevention
- C71 – Introduction to Personal Lines Insurance
- Experience:
- Minimum two (2) years experience as an Associate Underwriter;
-or- - Five (5) years experience in automobile, cargo and liability insurance at an Insurance Company or Insurance Brokerage
- Minimum two (2) years experience as an Associate Underwriter;
- Special skills and/or requirements
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Products
- Working knowledge of CARS, IWS, SIS
- In-depth knowledge of SRE underwriting Procedures and policy wordings
- In-depth knowledge of HTA, MB Insurance Act, MPIC Act

Underwriter II

Responsible for quotation and overall underwriting of very complex transportation packages and fleet business. Independently make decisions that impact brokers and their clients. Provides interpretation and direction on underwriting issues to brokers, claims personnel and junior staff.
Qualifications:

- High School Graduation
- MPI courses required
- Nine (9) Insurance Institute courses in total:
- C47 – Reinsurance
- C32 – Bodily Injury Clams
- C72 - Introduction to Risk Management and Commercial Lines Insurance
- Experience:
- Three (3) years as an Underwriter I
-or- - Five (5) years experience in the Insurance Industry either working for a Commercial Broker -or-
- Commercial Insurer with a minimum of three (3) years as a Commercial Underwriter with knowledge and practical experience of Cargo, General Liability and Automobile Insurance.

Assures the daily business of SRE is processed correctly and efficiently in accordance with the underwriting guidelines of the corporation by providing underwriting support and analysis.

- Experience:

Above and beyond the normal scope of an Underwriting Clerk duties the overall function is to provide efficient and knowledgeable support for underwriting staff and entry department and claims confirmations on all policy types.
Qualifications:

- High school graduation
- CIP course C11 or General Essentials
- Computer courses at intermediate level (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access)
- Experience:
- Three years clerical experience including two years related job experience (S.R.E., Broker, Other Insurer)
- Special skills and/or

- Advanced knowledge and training in Microsoft products.
