Road Safety

Construction Zones

View Video

Construction workers put their lives at risk when working on the road. As drivers, we can help them stay safe on the job.

Follow these tips to drive safely through a construction zone.

  • Speed limits may be lower in construction zones. Slow down when you see the warning signs- it’s the law. In designated construction zones, the set fine for speeding will be doubled, even if there are no workers present.
  • Watch for construction workers on or near the roadway, especially the flag person at the beginning of a construction zone. The flag person helps control the flow of traffic through the area and you must follow their directions, including slowing down or stopping.
  • Keep plenty of space between you and the vehicle ahead so you can stop suddenly if necessary.
  • Slow down and be careful so workers can get the job done safely and you can get to your destination.
