A motorcycle is a two-wheeled motor vehicle that has:
- A minimum seat height of 650 mm (26 inches)
- A minimum wheel rim diameter of 250 mm (10 inches)
- A minimum wheelbase of 1,006 mm (40 inches)
- A maximum speed capability of more than 50 km/h

You must be licenced to drive a motorcycle
To legally operate a motorcycle in Manitoba, you must:
- Hold a valid licence of any class and stage.
- Pass a written or oral knowledge test.
- Obtain a Class 6 M Stage licence in order to complete the MSC’s motorcycle training course. Completion of this course is required before a Learner Stage Licence is issued.
- Complete a minimum nine-month Learner Stage.
- Pass a road test to advance to the Intermediate Stage, a minimum 15-month stage.
Conditions contributing to motorcycle crashes are: driver distraction/inattention; driver ability impaired by drinking; losing control; speeding; and following too closely.

Please note, if the engine on your vehicle is not more than 50 cc and cannot exceed 50 km/h, it is a moped, not a motorcycle. Licensing regulations and driving techniques differ for mopeds and motorcycles. It’s important that you know the difference.
