Freeze Frame: MPI partnership promotes eco-friendly driving

Manitoba Public Insurance is a proud partner of the annual Freeze Frame International Film Festival. The opportunity to connect with the province’s youth by encouraging them to think critically and creatively about road safety and eco-driving habits is an effective way of increasing awareness in schools and the greater community.

Earlier this year (2010), students were invited to submit videos with an eco-driving theme and compete for the top prize of $250 in two age categories, which were offered in both official languages. The winning videos were announced at the Youth Video Awards ceremony in advance of the film festival.

“Projects that get students thinking about road safety issues and making responsible decisions help to reinforce the road safety message for our new and future drivers,” said Clif Eden, manager of Road Safety. “Our partnership with Freeze Frame helps us reach that demographic in a creative way.”

Congratulations to all the students from Ashern Central and Notre Dame schools, and to Jakobi Heinrichs from Marchand, Manitoba, winners of this year’s video competition in the category of eco-friendly driving habits.

The three winning entries were:

Reel Views (Grades 9 – 12)

English - The Bakery: Ashern Central School
French - Voyage aux jeux Olympiques: Collège Régional Notre Dame

Wee Reels (Kindergarten to Grade 8)

A Lesson from Bob: Individual entry from Jakobi Heinrichs from Marchand, Manitoba.

Freeze Frame is a local not-for-profit organization providing opportunities for children and youth to develop media literacy, critical thinking skills, and the ability to express themselves through film and video. The annual international film festival is held in March and presents an award-winning collection of films made for children and young people from the all over the world.
