ATTEMPTED FRAUD ADVISORY

Manitoba Public Insurance is warning customers to not give out any personal information to an automated voice messaging system that is offering to renew Autopac policies or driver’s licences over the telephone.

Several people in the Dauphin, Virden and Erickson areas were contacted recently under this apparent scam.  The automated messaging system asked them to renew either their Autopac policy or driver’s licence, and then requested the person’s credit card number.

Manitoba Public Insurance does not conduct business this way and brokers never call customers individually to renew coverage.

People contacted in this manner should immediately hang up the phone. If Manitobans suspect an attempt to con them has been made by telephone or e-mail, they are encouraged to immediately contact Phonebusters toll free at 1-888-495-8501, or via their website at www.phonebusters.com.
