Roundabouts

There’s a new type of intersection appearing in different parts of the province. It’s called a roundabout.

When approaching
a roundabout you
will see this sign.

Here are some tips on using a roundabout:

  • Always enter and exit to the right. Traffic flows counter-clockwise. Reduce your speed to the posted speed limit or slow down and be prepared to yield to pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles already in the roundabout.
  • Only proceed into the roundabout when no traffic is approaching from the left. Once you are on it, you have the right-of-way over vehicles entering.
  • Continue around until you get to the street you wish to exit onto. Signal your intentions to exit. As you exit, watch for pedestrians within the pedestrian corridor and yield the right-of-way to pedestrians or cyclists.

This type of intersection keeps traffic flow moving. If used properly, it can be a safe and efficient way to move from one street to another without stopping.
