“Road-ready” checklist will help you get there safely this holiday season
If you’re heading out of town during the holiday season, you’ll probably be focussing on the fun and festivities that await you at your destination. Manitoba Public Insurance reminds you, though, to think first about the trip ahead of you. You can’t stop bad weather or icy roads, but you can be road-ready so that you and your loved ones arrive safely. Here’s a checklist to help you.
- vehicle in good winter driving condition – including battery, block heater, tires, fluids
- windshield wiper blades in good condition and washer fluid topped up
- gas tank full
- snow and ice “busters”: brush, scraper, shovel, lock de-icer, anti-skid mat or sand/salt
- repair kit: booster cables, spare tire, jack
- cell phone for emergency use (not while driving)
- adequate outdoor winter clothing for everyone in the vehicle
- emergency kit: candle, matches, non-perishable foods, blankets, break-open hand warmers, first aid kit, flares
- plans for leaving early to avoid rushing on icy roads
