Night Driving - Extra caution saves lives
More drivers die on Manitoba roadways between midnight and 6 a.m. than during any other time period. More than 30 per cent of traffic fatalities take place at this time of day. Adapting our driving behavior at night can go a long way to making our roads safer.
Know the limits of your night vision
Night time reduces depth perception, colour recognition and peripheral vision. It’s also harder to judge the speed of other vehicles.
Don’t be blinded or blind others

Watch out for impaired drivers
Many night-time crashes are caused by impairment resulting from either alcohol, drugs or fatigue. Weekend nights are particularly dangerous, so drive defensively.
Make night driving safer
Clean your headlights, tail-lights and signal lights to make sure that you can see and be seen. And slow down so that you don’t “out-drive” your headlights (drive too fast to react to obstacles ahead). Also increase your following distance.
