Late Season Riding
When it’s almost time to start thinking about putting away the motorcycle or scooter for the season, you’ll want to make sure you put it away in one piece. Late season riding can present some challenges that you may not notice at first – like cooler temperatures.
Cooler temperatures makes rubber on tires a little harder so traction isn’t quite as good as in summer.
On cool, clear mornings watch for frost on bridges or in shaded areas. You could be riding along on dry roads then suddenly find yourself sliding instead of riding.
Fallen leaves on the road could also cause a biker to slip. This is especially dangerous if the leaves are wet and if they’re on a curve or turn.
For other drivers, motorcycles and scooters are hard to see at any time of year. But if your window is fogged up, your blind spots are even larger, and your chance of seeing these vehicles smaller.
It’s important to dress for the cooler weather. If you’re cool you’ll be less alert to make quick decisions.
