Highway Emergency Vehicles
Emergency responders on the highway place themselves in harm’s way when responding to a crash or when pulling someone over for a traffic offence.
The high speeds of the highway make it extremely important that motorists recognize this inherent danger.
When police or other emergency responders are stopped at the side of the highway, passing motorists must slow down and change lanes where possible. There’s even a specific law to protect emergency responders. It states “Motorists approaching police, fire or ambulance vehicles stopped at the roadside with emergency lights illuminated are required to slow down and proceed with caution and may only pass if it can be done safely. On multi-lane highways, you are required to change lanes.”
Drive safely past emergency vehicles on the highway. You’ll avoid a fine but more importantly you could save an emergency responder’s life.
