Driving Tips > The 60-Second Driver
Green Driving
Efficient fuel consumption and the well-being of our environment are at the forefront of public concern these days. Our driving habits play a huge role in both.
Keep these tips in mind and you can improve your carbon footprint and see an impact in your wallet.
- Use air conditioning on the highway. Rolling the windows down creates drag and increases fuel consumption more than if you use air conditioning.
- Increasing your highway speed by 20 kilometres per hour will cause your vehicle to consume 20 percent more fuel.
- Aggressive driving can also increase fuel consumption by as much as 39 percent and will only save you about two and a half minutes for each hour you drive aggressively.
- Idling longer than 10 seconds uses more fuel than it takes to restart the engine so consider turning your car off.
- And be sure to inflate your tires. A single under inflated tire can lose 15 thousand kilometres from its life and increases fuel consumption by four percent.
