Driver Distractions
As drivers, we are faced with many distractions on every trip. Being aware of these distractions can ensure we don’t get sidetracked by them.
Car Stereos
One of the biggest driver distractions is playing with the car stereo. This can greatly increase your chance of a collision. Make any radio or CD changes at a red light.
Passengers
Another common distraction is passengers. Other people in the vehicle can take your focus away from the road ahead. When driving with passengers, keep conversations and noise to a minimum. Sometimes a passenger can help you by making a call for you, tune the radio and be another set of eyes.
Other Distractions
Other common distractions include eating, smoking and personal grooming. So do these things outside the vehicle.
Distracted drivers take longer to react to changing road conditions. They fail to see other vehicles and road users and may even miss important signs and lights, increasing the risk of a collision. So when you're behind the wheel, just focus on driving.
