BACKGROUND |
High School Driver Education Program >
Driver Education Students > Code of Conduct
At the first classroom session, the Parent Meeting and the first in-car lesson, instructors inform students and parents about all applicable driver education policies and procedures, classroom and vehicle rules and responsibilities, expectations of students and the discipline policy. Students are expected to adhere to this code of conduct at all times in the Driver Education Program. Failure to do so may result in expulsion from the program without a refund.
Classroom Attendance Policy
Students are required to attend a minimum of 30 hours of the 34 scheduled classroom hours, and all absences must be excused. Students/parents must inform the classroom instructor in advance of any planned absences (i.e. family vacation, school trip, etc.)
Students are expected to be on time for class, or notify the instructor about potential tardiness. If students do not provide instructors with valid reasons for being late, their tardiness may be considered as an unexcused absence.
In-Car Attendance Policy
Students are required to attend all 16 hours of Driver Education in-car lessons. Students must provide at least 24 hours notice to instructors to cancel or re-schedule in-car lessons. In the event of illness or emergency, if the DE instructor cannot be reached, students/parents are asked to call DE Office at 985-7199/1-800-261-9928.
Discipline Policy (Classroom and Vehicle)
If a student exhibits problem behaviour in the classroom or vehicle, the instructor will discuss the problem with the student, reminding the student about behaviour expectations and discipline policies that were outlined at the start of the course. If the problem behaviour continues, the instructor will inform the student of possible consequences such as contacting the parent/guardian and expulsion from the program.
School Suspensions
Any student who is suspended from his/her high school and/or is not permitted on school grounds will be subsequently suspended from Driver Education. If a suspension exceeds the number of allowed absences in the Driver Education Program the student will be expelled from the course and will not be entitled to a refund.
Criminal Code Offences
Any student who has a Criminal Code conviction or has been served with a Criminal Code offence notice related to a motor vehicle will NOT be permitted to enrol in the Driver Education Program. Any student who receives a suspension or is charged with a Criminal Code offence related to a motor vehicle while enrolled in the Program will not be allowed to complete the Driver Education Program or be entitled to a refund.
Student Re-Training
Students who have completed the Driver Education Program will not be allowed to enrol in the course for a second time. Only students with special circumstances will be allowed to repeat Driver Education. Instructors must contact the Driver Education Office to obtain permission before registering students for re-training.
Adult Enrolment (Rural Areas Only):
In rural areas without immediate access to a commercial driving school, a high school is permitted to enrol students who are not high school students under the following circumstances:
Important note: As of November 13, 2006, all new applicants for Manitoba driver’s licences must meet identity verification standards set out in a new provincial law. Before writing the test to obtain a Class 5 Learner’s Permit, a student must register as a customer and present acceptable identification documents to an Autopac agent or Manitoba Public Insurance Customer Service Centre.
