Road Test Preparation
- You are responsible for providing a vehicle for the road test.
- Check vehicle equipment:
- Prior to the road test, check your vehicle to ensure all equipment is functioning properly (lightings systems, tires, brake system, horn, left mirror, rear view mirror, windshield, seat belts, vehicle registration stickers). A complete list of equipment the Driver Examiner checks can be found in the Vehicle Equipment Section of the Manitoba Driver’s Handbook.
- If your vehicle has equipment problems or deficiencies, the test may be cancelled. The road test receipt will be returned and you will have to rebook.
- Arrive early for the road test appointment with the proper documents:
- Check in for the road test fifteen minutes prior to your scheduled time. Your road test will be cancelled if you are late.
- Ensure you have both copies of the road test receipt, a valid learner’s stage licence and a valid registration certificate for the vehicle you will be using, or your test will be cancelled.
- If the road test is cancelled for any reason (prior to driving), the road test receipt will be returned and you will have to rebook.
The Test
- Greeting/licence/receipt/signature:
- After you check in, a driver examiner calls you, introduces himself or herself, checks your documents, and asks you to sign the road test sheet.
- You then proceed to your vehicle.
- Vehicle check:
- The examiner asks you to get in and start the vehicle.
- He/she checks the lights (signals front/rear of the vehicle and brake lights).
- The examiner gets into the vehicle with you and checks the interior condition: cleanliness of the windshield, cracks in the windshield, seat belt operation. He/she also ensures inside door handles function.
- If the vehicle does not meet standards, the road test is cancelled.
- The examiner explains how the test will be conducted, providing you with an opportunity to ask the questions:
- This is your only opportunity to ask questions. No questions are permitted once you're on the road. So, if you are unsure about anything, ask now.
- Explanation of the test results:
- Once the road test is complete, the examiner explains the test results, whether or not you pass.
- If you fail, you will have to pay $30.00 in advance again at any Autopac agent, Driver Licensing Office or Driver Testing Office, and make an appointment (minimum 14 days wait) providing the new receipt number.
- If you pass, the examiner issues a Class 5I Licence application, which is validated by the cashier in any Winnipeg testing location, or by a local MPI licensing agent in rural areas.
- You cannot drive alone until your licence has been validated.
