High School Driver Education Program >
Class 5 Learner's Licence > Identification
Students need to register as Manitoba Public Insurance customers before they can take the Knowledge Test in the Driver Education class. They can register by taking their identity documents to any Autopac agent, or various Manitoba Public Insurance locations.
Students can take this important step even before registering for Driver Education classes.
The Autopac agent will give the student a form with a Customer Number. (The heading on the form will say “Change Particulars.”) The student must retain the form, because the student will need to show it to the instructor before taking the knowledge test.
The agent will copy the identity documents, take the student’s photo and record the student’s signature. Afterwards, Manitoba Public Insurance will check the identity documents to make sure everything is in order.
Be sure to take the right identity documents.
Acceptable address documents include:
These documents must show the student’s legal name and current address.
There are other documents that can be used. Refer to the “Establishing Your Identity” brochure for more information on documents you can use.
Students who have only one document showing their permanent address can use a Declaration of Guarantor for Proof of Identity Form witnessed by a qualified professional, including a Manitoba school principal to satisfy the second address requirement. To act as a guarantor, a person must be a Canadian citizen residing in Canada, have known the student personally for at least two years and be from one of the occupations listed on the Declaration of Guarantor for Proof of Identity form.
